Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to purchase books or supplies for my student?

  • Yes! You will need to provide your student with their music books. Some parents also send their student with a lined notebook for keeping their lesson assignments in. This is not required, but is helpful. If they do not have a notebook, I will send them home with a weekly paper of their practice assignments.

Which books should I purchase for my student?

  • My first preference for method books is Alfred's Basic Piano Library. However, I do have many students who use Faber Piano Adventures or other method books. Unless you have a strong preference, I always recommend Alfred's Basic Piano Library; but I will teach your student using whichever method you prefer. If your student is just starting piano for the first time, they will begin in Level 1A. If they have previously taken piano lessons, we will decide what level we want to put them at during their first lesson and I will send you the information for which books to order for them.

Can I attend my student's lessons?

  • Absolutely! Parents are not required to attend, but are always welcome to sit in during lessons at any time.

Do you hold recitals?

  • Yes! We have a Christmas Recital which is always held the week prior to Thanksgiving. We also have a Spring Recital which is always held the last week in April. Each student performs 2 songs at each recital. Our recitals are held at Birch Creek Assisted Living (located at 532 South Main Street, Smithfield, UT 84335). All family & friends are welcomed to attend recitals - no tickets or cost are required to attend. Zoom links will be provided prior to recitals for anyone who would like to watch remotely. Best dress is expected for any students performing in the recitals; casual dress for anyone not performing. Refreshments are served afterwards. Due to the large number of students enrolled in piano lessons, multiple evenings of recitals are held for each recital. Students are divided up evenly and assigned one evening to perform for each recital. Siblings will always be assigned to perform in the same recital.
